An unbearably depressing story I just made up on the spur of the moment. It has nothing to do with my present state of mind, though I have been invited to a dinner which I would've preferred not to attend. Ah well.

Warm Hugs

When a humongous lack of ideas and inspiration hits me like a wave of chilly sea brine, whilst standing naked on a jagged shore that looks out upon a wind-swept loch, I reach for my red posca pen.

It's a special day today.
for the first time since I've been at this school, I've decided to hand in some pics of mine to the guys who run the school paper.
Ok, maybe it's not the first time. I did once give a picture of 'The Pinkey and the Brain' to a friend who had it published for me without my knowledge.
Let's say this is the first time some pictures of mine are going to published on the small, crude, student funded school paper, with my concent and knowledge.
At least i hope they'll be published. I handed them in but... well.
Let's also just say that they might not go down well with certain 'faithfuls' at my school.

I realise I owe an explanation.

-Apocalypse Saul-
Saul was this crazy old King of Isreal in the Bible. He gets really jealous of his young successor, David, makes the kid's life hell then kills himself. At least, that's the tragedy written by Vittorio Alfieri (one of Italy's great Preromantics) which is loosely based on the biblical tale.
Anyway, in olde timey italian, 'Brando' means sword. So saul is saying, at the end of the tragedy:
"But only you remain, my Brando, for this final need'
The fat guy next to him stroking his bald head in the shadowy gloom is, of course, Colonel 'the horror' Kurtz himself.
*ba domp-a dump tssssch*

-The Divine (Tragi)comedy-
The Divine Comedy is basically regarded as Italy's greatest work of poetry, written by Dante Alighieri. It's basically a really long and confusing medieval christian wet-dream, where this guy Dante travels through Hell, Purgatory and Heaven, learning lots of stupid racist dogmatic homophobic christian values which probably had C.S.Lewis groaning in extacy, which he writes of extensively in three large and heavy volumes. In most pictures, Dante is drawn wearing a laurel crown on top of a cap and a long flowing robe. At the end of 'Paradiso' he finally meets God.
Nietzsche said 'God is dead'.
*ba domp-a dump tssssch*

And there you have it.
Hopefully I won't get burned or lynched for these by two thirds of my School.

Timmy Robotlegs

Here are a couple of thoughts.
I know I'm generally as planned out and consistant as one of John McCain's speeches to the press, but I've been toying with the idea of doing a regular stream of comic strips again. Bit like Bananaglass but shorter and in black and white. Subnormality meets Gary Larson, that sort of thing.
I've done a couple already, and I might eventually lapse back into my posca-pen fuelled historical vignette mode.
But I'm toying with the idea, anyway.

Naddy Grotkin -ep.2

The Life and adventures of Miss Naddy Grotkin, episode two.
We last left our young heroine after she had been abandoned by her rotten 'uncle' Lord Picklehead and left to fend for herself.
We see her now, alone and cold and perhaps slightly hungry, as she starts off on her perilous adventure.

The Cactus

Two posts in one day? Smokin'.
I thought I'd just briefly introduce this little story (only 9 episodes in all).
It's about an impossible, unrequited love which ends in death.
...If you look at it one way instead of another.
If you look at it the other way, it's a story of emprisonment and eventual freedom.
I'm not at all spiritual. I don't really believe in the soul or ghosts.
The 'ghost' in this story is a represantation of love. A love which can be either wasted or nurtured.
Also, I have never had any other plant except for cacti. They're not beautiful. They can be quite ugly and even painful.
And they're not as easy to look after as one would think. They need water abd can burn in the sun.
They look tough on the outside but are quite vulnerable on the inside.
So I like cacti. I can relate.
That's basically it. I drew this story to get all that old stress I had about unrequited love out of my system.
You might think the ending is sad, but I don't. I guess it also destroyes a couple of myths about Italy being the land of romance or something.
It's in italian because I'm thinking about asking the school paper to publish it.
I've just realised this is probably the crappiest introduction ever. Oh well.
It's translated here (with notes). Hope you like it.

"I love you"... "with all my heart"

"I love you. I stay here with you every day, all day, until late when you go home. At night I stay here and wait for you. I see you thirteen hours a day. Confucius once said 'to love something means wanting it to live'. You take care of me. You water me. You make sure I stay alive. Does that mean that you love me?"

"What does she have that I don't?"

"Why don't you talk to me anymore? Once upon a time you used to talk to me. Every day. Then you stopped. You talked to me about work, about your family, about your dreams and your desires... Maybe it's because I never replied. And if I spoke to you now?"

"All it takes is a little courage. Come on! Carpe diem..." "No don't go! I..."

"Love is a cosmic force. Love is madness. Love is the desire of what we do not have."*

"Aw sh-...ipwrecks!"**

"I know what you're dreaming about. A better job... a better life. I only dream of embracing you. At least I used to... You've forgotten me. Of that, now I am certain. Months have passed... and I am dying. And yet I feel nothing... I'm not suffering. I'm free... free to feel real love..."
"Good night, love."

*'Shit' in Italian is 'merda'. To avoid swearing, the cactus says 'Mercury' which sounds similar. 'Shipwrecks' is supposed to give the same idea.
**Some of the observations on love discussed by Plato in his dialogue 'Symposium'.
